The Queensland Society of Model and Experimental Engineers (Incorporated), otherwise known as QSMEE, was formed in 1932 and is a "Not for Profit" organization. Our membership is made up of individuals from all walks of life who share a common interest in making engineering models, with a main focus on 7¼" and 5" gauge steam locomotives.
Our Society has a diverse range of members and some other interests involve traction engines, stationary steam, petrol engines, propeller and jet aircraft engines and clock making and tool making.
The Society operates the Pine Valley Railway on its five acre landscaped property with over 2,000 metres of 7¼" and 5" gauge ground level track, and approximately 180 metres of 5", 3½" and 2½" gauge elevated track. If you are looking to join the Society, working bees on the first Sunday of the month are a good start in getting to know fellow modellers.
We play trains on the second Sunday of each month and a "potter" day is held every Wednesday. Members meet with a social gathering held on the fourth Monday night of each month at the East Brisbane State School, (corner of Stanley St and Wellington Rd) commencing at 7.30pm.
The Society prides itself on fostering all aspects of model engineering even though operating locomotives is the main activity. All members are expected to participate in both the promotion of the hobby and the upkeep and maintenance of the facility. While we welcome and encourage new members, each member will be expected to attend our working days on a regular basis.
If you wish to visit for a train ride, please see the information on the "Visit Us" page. We have to manage the number of visitors on site and because of the popularity of our run days, an invitation to attend is a must.
