In 1943, Twenty bar framed 2-8-2 American Baldwin built lomotives arrived to alleviate Queensland's wartime motive power shortage. They were a MacArthur class lomotive and became known as the 'Yanks". Number 221A was retired in 1968 and after a total rebuild at QR's Ipswich steam workshops, the AC16 saw service again in 2003. Come and follow this Yank on its Toowoomba test run and its first three long distance outings. Catch the action from pacing shots to cab rides.

The Moreton Central Sugar Mill first crushed cane in 1897. Located in Nambour, just north of Queensland's capital of Brisbane, its last cane arrived on the evening of December 03 2003. Come on a visit and see some of the last
workings of this cane tramway, the sight of trains snaking through the
main street of Nambour now gone forever. "...one
of the best Australian produced presentations that I have seen and would
recommend it to all people regardless of whether or not your interest
extends to the cane railways of Queensland" review - April 2004 Railway Digest Australia's premier railway magazine |

Not for about 30 years have two Queensland Railways “Betys” been on the roster together to make such a run possible. 1089 built by Walkers Ltd of Maryborough in 1958 was the last mainline steam locomotive built in Australia. For the trip to Toowoomba both locos share
the duty and on Saturday afternoon the train is split with 1079 returning
to Brisbane. 1089 remains overnight to do some short trips to Harristown
before its return trip to Brisbane on Sunday afternoon. |
